Christmas Day Chic

Having planned every last detail of Christmas down to the eighth degree, there’s only one more thing to consider…what do you wear on Christmas Day?

After investing so much time in every tiny detail to make sure that the day is as wonderful as possible for all those involved, it’s only right that you spare a little thought for yourself. In between the presents being ripped open and the feeding frenzy of Christmas lunch, squeeze in a little time to slip into something glamorous to see you through the day.

Maybe Santa will have been good to you and left a little something under the tree that you’ve been hinting about all year? A piece of cozy cashmere, a swathe of oh so soft silk, some twinkling jewellery or even an Upper Street Gift Card to ensure that you put your best foot forward in 2011.

Staying in with everyone coming to yours doesn’t mean you have to forego gorgeous heels – simply kick them off to do the cooking. A pair of camel and black satin round toe brogues echoes the relaxed elegance of these Stella McCartney trousers and the beautifully embellished Chloe blouse.

If you’re popping round to friends for a pre lunch Christmas day drink, slip off a warm coat to reveal a beautiful cashmere dress such as this one by Michael Kors. The soft grey and turquoise suede triple strap platform court high heels will be a perfect compliment to the blue tones in the accessories.

Use an evening Christmas cocktail invite as an excuse to go all out with this stunning Lanvin dress and beautiful coat by Alexander McQueen. Finish off the look with a pair of green patent sandals adorned with a metallic white gold flower and matching platform.

Whatever your plans for the festive season, here at Upper Street we would like to take this opportunity to wish you a wonderful Christmas… and a very Happy New Year full of beautiful, stylish shoes!

Style Icons – Kate Winslet

Understated and elegant, two things that we at Upper Street aspire to, Kate Winslet is the quintessential real woman’s style icon.

A mum of two who balances family life with an Oscar winning career that takes her all over the world, her movie credits include Titanic, Sense and Sensibility, The Reader, Revolutionary Road and of course our current seasonal favourite, The Holiday.

A true English rose, she seems to go about her life in the public eye with grace and dignity – often a rare occurrence in the world of celebrity these days.

Seemingly down to earth and shunning the temptation to cultivate the “I’m 100% perfect with no flaws” image projected by so many, she expresses the opinion that women should be encouraged to accept their appearance with pride.

A sentiment echoed in her role as Lancome ambassador, Kate has been quoted as saying she is “proud and thrilled” to extend her relationship with the legendary name in beauty that aims to give women the freedom to grow and celebrate their beauty and femininity with confidence, audacity and energy.

Teased by her Titanic co-star Leonardo DiCaprio about her size 10 feet, Kate would have no problem shoe shopping at Upper Street as our sizes range from a UK size 2 up to a 10. So we’ve taken inspiration from some of her finest red carpet moments and designed some beautiful shoes that would grace any foot, no matter what their size….

Add a touch of red carpet glamour to chic simplicity. Pared with a little black dress, these peep toe platform courts in camel leather are given a subtle flash of red – perfect for drawing attention to such fabulous shoes.

Inspired by the Yves Saint Laurent gown that Kate wore to the 2010 Oscars, these pewter snake, dove satin and silver leather gladiator sandals with their Swarovski Diamante embellishment make the perfect partner to any show stopping dress.

Kate opted for minimalistic luxe when she chose shoes to go with the stunning Stella McCartney side-split gown for the Bafta’s. We love these black satin crossover front sandals; the ankle strap provides that all important leg lengthening factor.
