Capsule Shoe Wardrobe – The Essentials

Category: Shoes To Go With

Most of us are well acquainted with the term “capsule wardrobe” when it comes to clothing and appreciate the need for acquiring the staples upon which to build.

But have you ever considered a capsule shoe wardrobe? Shoes are the ultimate finishing touch and can have such a strong impact on your overall look.

At Upper Street, we’ve given some thought to what we consider to be the absolute shoe essentials. To enable you to build up a truly versatile and wearable collection, we’ve split them into Essential Basics and Additional Lust Have’s. This week, we’re covering the Essential Basics so get ready for a shoe wardrobe overhaul.

The Court

Black Snake Pointed Court

The classic court will never date. At Upper Street you can have fun with design and colour or keep it as simple as you like.

Grey & Black Suede Brogue, Glossy Berry Patent Round Toe, Black Snake Buckle

Grey and black suede brogue detailing livens up a classic pointed or round shape and glossy berry tones in patent and black give an air of rich sophistication to a round toe style. For a stylish spin on the classic black court  – choose snake with a contrasting buckle and heel for a real head turner of a shoe.

The Neutral

Camel Snake Patent Brogue

The mileage in a neutral hued shoe is never ending – a shade that lengthens legs and transcends the seasons effortlessly.

Camel Snake Platform, Satin d’Orsay Pointed Court, Snake Contrast Peep Toe

Extremely versatile, the camel snake platform with contrasting toecap and counter back would be perfect for the office. A neutral toned evening shoe in rich camel satin with a glossy chocolate patent heel and embellished ankle strap would see you through many social events.

Being neutral doesn’t mean you can’t make a statement. These camel leather peep toes with contrasting natural snake heel and buckle are sure to be noticed. Visit our ‘Neutrals’ shoe gallery for more inspirations and ideas on how to design your very own shoe.

The Glitzy Sandal

Gold Pewter Weave Front Sandal

When you need the perfect red carpet shoe, you can’t go wrong with a beautifully embellished glitzy sandal. Opt for one or two pairs that will compliment all the best outfits in your wardrobe, perfect for a night out or a nice dinner with friends.

Silver & Pewter Snake Gladiator, Embellished Gold Tone Sandal, Silver Pewter Leather Platform

Go for gorgeous gladiators in a combination of pewter snake, silver leather and dove satin. Add a sprinkling of Swarovski diamante embellishment and you have a beautiful, contemporary evening shoe.

These double crossover embellished strap sandals in gold tones would work as well for summer weddings as for a Christmas party.

Finally, keep it simple but chic with a sandal in silver and pewter leather with just a subtle touch of sparkle on the strap. Pure luxe.

The Day To Evening Platform

Black Patent & Two Tone Pink Snake Platform

A platform shoe is such a versatile piece of footwear and if you choose a design that works for both day and night, you’ll maximise your cost per wear return.

Chocolate Round Toe d’Orsay, Purple Suede Tripple Strap, Black & Grey Suede Platform Sandal

Take inspiration from a rich chocolate and camel leather shoe with d’Orsay sides and front strap with buckle or a contemporary triple strap platform in sumptuous purple suede.

The black and grey suede d’Orsay platform sandal with Mary Jane strap would work with trousers or a skirt and opaques by day. For evening, team with a dress and go bare legged or opt for sheer hosiery.
