“I saw this and thought of you.”
Upper Street bride, Jessica Green, had been searching high and low for her bridal shoes when her friend sent her a link to Upper Street with a note, “I saw this and thought of you”. Jessica shares her Upper Street story beautiful bridal shoes with us.

Tell us a little about yourself
I grew up in the countryside and although I spent much of my youngest years in wellies (out of necessity) it should be noted that I think have worn nothing but heels since the age of about 14 and never really looked back! I’m a townie these days and although wellies hold a deservedly important place in the world of footwear I don’t need to wear them often in my role as a Business Development Manager!
How would you describe your personal style?
I do like to always look neat and tidy although not necessarily ‘proper’ – you won’t find a suit in my wardrobe that’s for sure! I’m not a natural shopper and am always happy to tag along with more fashion savvy friends who pick out things that suit me better than I can. I could never offer fashion advice, but if I had to give one tip that would be it: adopt a pet personal shopper from your well dressed friends!
What’s your relationship with shoes?
I would own many more shoes than I do if I could but I definitely treasure them and look after them. I have an excellent relationship with my local cobbler as I see him so very often! A favourite pair of shoes can be made to look almost new again in the right hands. I’m not obsessive about shoes, but I do crave always that all elusive mix of beautiful and comfortable so am always on the lookout (which according to my husband amounts to being obsessive!)
What was your design inspiration for your Upper Street shoes?
My Upper Street shoes were for my wedding. I had been searching high and low, online, on the High Street, you name it, I had been looking!
It was a friend who sent me the Upper Street link with a classic “I saw this and thought of you”. I then spent hours playing on the site much to my delight!
I was, however, too late for a bespoke pair of my own as the wedding was, at this point, only a couple of weeks away! But I was thrilled to go to the studio and have a look at what Upper Street had available and there they were – my shoes!
What did you think when you opened your parcel from Upper Street?
So, I took my shoes away with me rather than receiving a parcel but very happy I was too. The customer service was flawless, what can I say? I was invited in and it felt like I was talking to friends about shoes. My shoes were beautifully boxed up for me and it was great to be told that I would be able to colour them later on if I wanted to and was encouraged by the girls to keep in touch for this!
What did your friends have to say about your shoes?
Ah…they loved them! And it should be noted that they were all very impressed that they stayed on my feet all day long and I really didn’t sit down very much at all not to mention the hours of dancing!
So will we be seeing you at Upper Street again soon?
I’m due to be bridesmaid later this year and I’m working on the bride in question. But also, purely for my own reasons, I certainly hope so. Being able to create your shoes in look, material, and colour is a dream of most women and I will be telling everyone where they need to go!

I matched my bridal shoes to my bouquet

Our latest Upper Street bride, Claire Saxon, was introduced to Upper Street by her good friend Amanda and designed her unique bridal shoes to match her bouquet. Read Claire’s bridal shoe story and also how we made sure her bridal shoes fitted like a glove.
Tell us a little about yourself
My husband Colin and I live and work near Southampton. I am a Business Consultant for an insurance company and have worked at the same company for many years. It gives me the work/life balance that I love, being located so local to where I live. Monday to Friday is pretty much taken up by work. Our weekends are taken up by socialising with good friends, eating good food and drinking fine wine!
How would you describe your personal style?
I’m very much a jeans, t-shirt and Converse girl at the weekend. I like to feel comfortable in my clothes and am probably not that adventurous to keep up with the latest “trends”. During the working week I dress more formally, wrap dresses, smart boots or shoes. I love to feel comfortable so will often wear flat shoes.
What’s your relationship with shoes?
I have lots of friends that are absolutely obsessed with shoes, and whilst I love them, I think there are only so many shoes you can wear. My friends, (you know who you are), will object to this statement! I therefore do not own a mountain of shoes, but if it’s for a special occasion then I am willing to splash out.
What was your design inspiration for your Upper Street shoes?
Colin proposed to me in July 2010 and I knew I wanted a winter wedding. I originally wasn’t going to have the traditional “white wedding”. Whilst much of the wedding did not conform to tradition, I found myself day dreaming about ivory dresses and bouquets. I therefore decided to change my mind and (as I am incapable of going to the High Street) ordered my 50′s style tea dress (in ivory) from the internet.
My good friend Mandy had made me aware of Upper Street and the concept of designing your own shoes, she showed me a pair that she had received and I was so impressed by the quality, I decided to give it a try. I have designed about 15 pairs so far, and whilst I was playing around, I thought it would be really good to design a pair for my wedding. As my dress was shorter, I thought it would be good to have a pair of shoes to match my bouquet and that is where it all started.
What did you think when you opened your parcel from Upper Street?
I received an email one day at work letting me know that my shoes were being dispatched. I rushed home and found the delivery note, so took a long lunch to go out to Southampton to collect my parcel. I was really excited and a little nervous too! As soon as I picked them up I had to open them immediately and try them on in the car! The package was beautiful and along with other bits and bobs and a personal note made them feel extra special.
I did have to contact Upper Street again as I felt that the shoes were just a little too tight for me. This was absolutely no problem and they were returned and altered free of charge. They now fit like a glove!
I took my shoes back to work for all the girls to have a gawp at and the office corridor made a great runway. Everyone really loved the Slate Satin colour and I planned my wedding flowers around the colour of the shoes.
On the day of the wedding I think they were the focal point and everyone commented on how beautiful they were.
Unfortunately it rained terribly all day and I was worried as to how the satin would fare. I had absolutely nothing to worry about and they look as good as new.
So will we be seeing you at Upper Street again soon?
I love wearing flat shoes and due to the new addition of flatties to Upper Street, I will be having a play to see if I can design the ideal pair (or maybe two!)
Thank you so much to the team for the oustanding customer service I received. I have spread the word to my “obsessive” shoe friends!
