Upper Street Wedding Shoe Design Competition: The Winners
Update: 5th June 2012
Cathy got married on Friday 1st June (see her fabulous wedding picture below) and has let us know the results of the raffle to win a pair of Upper Street shoes.
“Just a quick update on the raffle, which was drawn at the wedding on Friday. We raised about £430 for Martin House Hospice, which is utterly brilliant! The winner is a lady called Wendy Barnett and I’ll be passing her the prize when I get back off honeymoon in a couple of weeks. We has a lovely day and as you can see, I managed to get myself some shoes!
Thanks for helping support the charity, it means a lot to me. Cathy x”
Congratulations to Cathy from all the Upper Street team – we hope you have a fabulous honeymoon and well done to Wendy! We’re looking forward to meeting you and making your own design shoes for you.

The news you’ve all been waiting for… who won the Upper Street wedding shoe design competition? Well don’t rush to the results below – read this first as we have 2 winners and both Cathy and ourselves would like to tell you why!
After checking and tallying all the votes yesterday, Cathy Stevenson with her wedding shoe “Beryl” was the winner. We rang Cathy with the good news, but there was a hitch – Cathy has size 12 feet and we don’t have the last or componenets to make a shoe that would fit a size 12. However Cathy came up with a wonderful idea, as told in her words below.
“Thanks very much for letting me know about the competition. I would have loved to have a pair of your shoes as I’ve heard good things about you all! Alas I have size 12 man feet and I think I should be content knowing my feet wouldn’t fit into anything so dainty. My search continues! And until then I have the emergency pair.
As I can’t have those shoes made, I would be very happy to swap the first prize with the person who came second and raffle off the second prize for charity. I currently support a charity called Martin House Hospice, which is a local charity to support the families of children who are terminally ill or severely disabled.
The reason I support Martin House is because of Alfie Oliver, who is the son of my work colleague and fellow runner (we run for the same club) Rob Oliver. Alfie was born with Pulmonary Hypertension amongst other things and will only survive when he’s older if he has a heart and lung transplant. Rob and his wife Tracey look after Alfie on a 24 hour basis to ensure his wellbeing and look to Martin House for respite when things get too much. Find out more about Martin House
This way one person gets their dream wedding shoes and I can raise cash for a good charity as well as adding another fun element to the wedding. Wins all round!”
Cathy
To ensure Cathy raises as much money as possible, we’ve increased the value of the gift code to £400 and it also includes a VIP appointment at the Upper Street Studio in London, so please support Cathy and Martin House and buy her raffle tickets!
So Danielle Weekes will be getting her wedding shoes made for her wedding by Upper Street, Cathy will receive a £400 gift code to raffle for Martin House and Mille Womack will get the third prize of £150 offer code towards her wedding shoes.
Thank you very much to everyone who designed their wedding shoes and voted. Have a fanastic wedding day.

Design your shoes with statement studs
When you’re looking to add that something extra to your Upper Street design to ensure that your shoes make the perfect statement, you can’t go wrong with studs. Some of our favourite customer designs have featured the embellishment that’s adored by style leaders and taste makers the world over. With that in mind, we’ve now added it as an option to more of our shoe styles.

Tan leather platform peep toe, Patent snakeskin pointed court
Try classic with a twist by adding a sprinkling of studs to a sumptuous tan leather platform peep toe or get fierce and show you mean business in a black patent pointed court with a sexy studded snakeskin toe cap.

Red suede snakeskin platform court, Teal leather round toe court
Opt for drama and play with rich colours for your studded design…a guaranteed head turner of a high heel! We love these red suede platform courts with a red snakeskin studded toe cap and counter back. Bring a rock chic edge to a simple round toe design in metallic teal leather by finishing with a marine snakeskin heel and studded counter back.
Here’s how to show a little tough love for your shoes and sprinkle studs on the toe cap or counter back on the the following Upper Street designs.
Pointed, round toe and platform courts in a either full or D’Orsay cut
Select the option ‘Toe cap’ under Fronts and ‘Counter back’ on the Back option to add studs to either or both the front and back of shoe. Please note you can’t add studs to shoes designed in Animal materials on the toe cap or counter back.
Platform peep toes and peep toes
On a full cut design you can only add studs to the front if you select a ‘Crossover front’. You can add studs to either individual crossover straps or both. On the D’Orsay cut you can have studs on both the crossover and plain fronts. Again, if you want to add sexy studs to the back of you shoe, simply select Counter back’ when you get to the Back option.
As above, please note you can’t add studs to shoes designed in Animal materials.
Navy patent snake T-bar, Leopard studded ballet flat
And don’t forget you can still toughen up your platform sandal and ballet flat designs – go glam in a gladiator or add studs to a classic navy ballet flat for extra style points. We can also provide gold studs as a special order – simply design your shoe as normal and then add a note in the ‘Notes’ section of the check out.
Visit our shoe design studio and experiment until your hearts content by adding a little rock chic edge to your Upper Street shoe. Are you tough enough to try it out?

Win Your Dream Wedding Shoes!
If you’d like to win your dream bridal shoes with a matching pair of ballet flats, then we have the perfect competition for you! Click here for all the details.
To help inspire you to create your beautifully bespoke wedding shoe design we’ve picked five of our favourite bridal shoes from the classic to the alternative and everything in between.
The Something Blue
The much loved tradition of Something Blue works so well when translated to an Upper Street design – all you have to do is decide on which shade and style is right for you.
Marine & indigo satin d’Orsay peep toe
Our Canadian bride Bryana designed a stunning d’Orsay platform peep toe in marine and indigo satin with a Swarovski jewel cluster to add sparkle and shine. Bryana really wanted her shoes to be her something blue and designed about twenty pairs before she settled on her beautiful blue heels.
The Classic With A Twist
If you’re a traditional girl at heart but like to put your own style stamp on things, why not design a classic bridal heel but add that extra personal touch so loved by many Upper Street brides?
Silver snakeskin with pewter bow
For her art deco themed wedding Ali Rhodes choose elegant d’Orsay cut heels in silver snakeskin with a large pewter bow. She asked us to add the inscription “On My Wedding Day, 29th May 2011″ to the inside of her shoe…and we happily obliged! Take a look at Ali’s beautiful wedding and very special shoes here.
The Traditional Wedding Shoe
Sometimes, tracking down that perfect traditional wedding shoe with every element you want can prove to be a somewhat impossible task. Upper Street can help you cross one more essential off your bridal to do list with our array of styles, materials and finishing touches.
If you’re after more of a traditional design like our gorgeous flower adorned bridal satin pointed court, take a look at Jessica Green’s shoe story. She’d been searching high and low when a thoughtful friend sent her a link to Upper Street with a note saying “I saw this and thought of you”.
The No Heels Option
If for whatever reason, heels are not the option for you on your big day, you can still hit the dizzying style heights with our beautiful bespoke ballet flats.
Vanilla satin bridal ballet flat
Your Upper Street bridal ballet flat can be designed to compliment both your dress and the theme of your wedding day. Opt for a traditional vanilla satin with a small bow and Swarovski crystal gem or create something unique and as individual are you are.
The Alternative
If a traditional shoe is not for you or you’re planning on wearing your bridal shoes again then throw all the rules out the window and design the perfect bespoke heel that reflects your personal style.
Black satin embellished sandal
We think this slinky black satin sandal with its bow and sparkly Swarovski diamante ankle strap would make the perfect alternative wedding design. Or do as our Upper Street bride Claire did and match your shoes to the colour of your bridal bouquet.

Tartan shoes for a wedding in the Scottish Highlands
Scottish bride, Lianne, wanted a wedding shoe that reflected her Scottish heritge and the location of her wedding, just outside Braemar, in the beautiful Scottish Highlands. So she sourced a Royal Stewart tartan and Upper Street made her a truly unique wedding shoe. Here’s Lianne’s story of designing her tartan wedding shoes.
Tell us a little about yourself
I’m Scottish (from Edinburgh) but have lived in London for the past 12 years. My husband and I live in Stoke Newington where we like to hang out at the weekend. I have a pretty busy job, as a partner in a law firm in the City. We like to travel a lot and catch up as much as we can with friends and family who are increasingly spread all over the place!
How would you describe your personal style?
Out of work, I have a fairly casual style – skinny jeans and tea dresses, usually with ballet flats rather than heels which I tend to save for work or nights out. Flats or boots are much more practical for day to day in London. I love J Brand for jeans and Whistles and my-wardrobe.com for everything else.
What’s your relationship with shoes?
I do love shoes – they’re the one part of an outfit that will always cheer me up. I am not sure how many pairs I have – too many probably! I store them in a rack in my bedroom or in their bags if they’re exceptionally nice. My most successful ever shoe purchase (before my wedding shoes of course) was a pair of Stella McCartney heels – I have never had so many compliments on any item of clothing or footwear!
What was the design inspiration for your Upper Street shoes?
My Upper Street shoes were created for my wedding. I didn’t want to get cream shoes I would never wear again – I wanted to design something fun, yet classic at the same time. My husband and I got married just outside Braemar, in the beautiful Scottish Highlands so, for my shoes, I chose Royal Stewart tartan which I sourced from a mill in Scotland. The Upper Street team were kind enough to test out the material for me to ensure that it would work for the shoes and it did! We tied in the Royal Stewart theme by using the same tartan for other touches throughout the day – e.g. the boys’ umbrellas and the flowers.
What did you think when you opened your parcel from Upper Street?
I was delighted when the shoes arrived from Upper Street (doubly so as I had ordered both heels and flats in the same material with a view to dancing later in the evening!) The packaging was beautiful which is nothing less than I would have expected from the Upper Street team who have such great attention to detail. The customer service was second to none – I could not have asked for more.
What did your friends have to say about your shoes?
My friends and family loved the tartan shoes once they glimpsed them under my wedding dress!
So will we be seeing you at Upper Street again soon?
I very much hope to see you very soon at Upper Street. Thank you again to all of the team for such a wonderful experience!
