The Bright Blues

Category: Trends

Beautiful bright blues flowed down the catwalks for Spring Summer 2011. From Matthew Williamson, Mulberry and Jaeger London came shades shade of cobalt, peacock and everything in a sea of blue between.

This oceanic hue has already started to filter down to the High Street with splashes of colour to awaken us from our long winter sleep, planting thoughts of warmer days ahead.

Go full on intensity in a dress or tonal separates or bring the shade into your closet with bold accessories – perfect for handbags and of course, shoes.

Cobalt has long been a favourite colour with which to design fabulous shoes at Upper Street – the colour instantly draws the eye to your footwear. Perfect for showing off new shoes…as one of our blog contributors will attest to when she choose these cobalt and gold snake platform peep toes. If you are looking for inspiration or just different shades of this lovely colour, visit our Shoe Gallery, alternatively, visit our Swatch Store to browse our shades in different materials and textures.

For early spring, dare to bare your legs with a slick of self tan and these gorgeous triple strap courts in cobalt suede with a tonal marine snake platform.

As the weather hots up, cobalt is the perfect shade for our Upper Street gladiator sandals, when paired with turquoise and two tone snake. Stud embellishment toughens up a shoe that would look perfect with a diaphanous dress for a summer wedding.

Cobalt Turquoise Snake Gladiator

Beautiful sea satin with a sprinkling of Swarovski Diamante turns an evening sandal into something special –  add a stunning dress in silver, a splash of summer bright nail polish to your toes and you’re ready to be the belle of the summer ball.

Shoes for a dinner date with Mr Someone

Category: Customer Stories

Nur Hidayah Hassan was the lucky winner of Upper Street’s Autumn / Winter 2010 design competition, as voted for by our Facebook fans, so we couldn’t wait to interview her once her beautiful design was brought to life.

Nur is a Malaysian student studying towards professional accounting qualification in London. She’s single and lives in Bayswater, West London with her friend Najlaa and pet cat Lulu. Her life pretty much evolves around studying, eating and shopping! And not to forget, designing shoes! ahem…

How would you describe your personal style?

It all depends on my mood, really. More often that not, I dress casual-chic to college. I love high heels, but unfortunately in London with the amount of walking I do from home to college, high heels would break my back! So for daytime I usually spice it up with a pair of fancy pumps to go with my outfits.

What’s your relationship with shoes?

I love shoes, and think you can tell a lot about a person from them. I can call myself a SHOE-A-HOLIC. Shoes inspire my daily outfits, and never fail to brighten my mood and day. Friends have told me that I am out of my mind for buying shoes for every event; in my defense, they’re an investment! You never know when you need a pair of purple or turquoise court shoes, they go pretty well with a pair of jeans and a simple top, day or night. I have about 35 pumps and 40-50 heels, in London and Malaysia, most of them still in their boxes with their pictures on the side (to make it easier for me to scan through them when I’m in a rush!)

What was your design inspiration for your Upper Street shoes?

Actually, I have always fancied a pair of blue sandals. Upper Street gives an option to add on embellishments like Swarovski Crystals on shoes, who wouldn’t go mad! It’s like ……..cherry on cheesecake…….. So sexy, so refreshing! I thought, that would be a perfect pair of shoes if I were to go out on a dinner date with Mr.Someone. Who ever that may be…..

What did you think when you opened your parcel from Upper Street?

I was so surprised, literally jumping up and down when I got the box from the deliveryman. He asked if they were a pair of Jimmy Choo’s…and I said, they’re better than that… they’re my very own “bespoke” shoes from Upper Street! The shoebox deserves first class recognition, and I was thrilled to find a note personally written by Julia, the co-founder of Upper Street. I thought that was sweet of her to drop a few lines congratulating me on winning the shoes (many thanks to all my voters, you guys rock!).

What did your friends have to say about your shoes?

My friends love them! They’re quite high, but who cares. My friends think that they are very elegant and they love the colour.

So will we be seeing you at Upper Street again soon?

I absolutely will continue designing shoes with Upper Street. It’s brilliant! I will definitely come back to order a pair for my sister and myself, for our brother’s wedding.
