The Three Butterflies Lunch is an annual fundraising event to help empower women around the world to transform their lives and their communities. The event brings together trailblazing women who have made an impact in their field; aspiring future leaders; inspiring women leaders from Womankind’s partner organisations and anyone else wishing to celebrate and support the empowerment of women worldwide.

The guests, including Upper Street’s co-founder Julia Grinham were treated to the sharp gags and uncanny impressions of compere Jan Ravens and a brilliant stand up set from Andi Osho before this year’s Keynote Speaker Germaine Greer‘s talked about both international and national issues affecting all women.

The lunch hosts an amazing prize draw and one lucky winner took away a gift to design her own shoes with Upper Street. Upper Street is very proud to have supported Womankind Worldwide and help raise much-needed funds.

Yes you can! Use metallics as an accent on your shoe to compliment the main material – by showing just a glimmer of gold your heels can be work appropriate and then be dressed up for later. These tan leather pointed court shoes with a contrasting gold snakeskin toe cap, heel and thin ankle strap are pure elegance and we love the gold accents on the black & gold peep toe platforms. This week’s Upper Street Shoe Design of the Week is all about a Melissa’s fuchsia pink snakeskin platform peep toes. The beautiful triple strap accent adds a touch of uniqueness to her design. Read all about her experience designing her first pair of Upper Street shoes.

Tell us a little about yourself

My name is Melissa Brown, I am from Brisbane, Australia which is in sunny Queensland. I am a strategic advisor for a project services company and we mainly do work for the resources industry. My hobbies are motorcycle riding and collecting shoes (seriously!). My favourite shoe brand is an Australian brand called Peeptoe Shoes – a company started here in Queensland. I am doing a shoe design course at a local design college and I am very interested in starting my own shoe company one day though that may just be a dream! I really enjoyed the experience of designing my pair of Upper Street shoes as this is the closest I can get to designing shoes at the moment.

What inspired your shoe design?

I had been searching for a pretty pair of pink shoes all year and it happened to be my birthday so I treated myself to a pair of Upper Street beauties!!

What did you think of your shoes when you received them?

I can honestly say it was one of the best shoe experiences I have had! Having a hand written note about my design was such a lovely touch. The box is gorgeous, I generally do not keep the boxes otherwise my house would be full of them, but this one I kept! The key ring and party feet were also such a nice inclusion. They fit like a dream considering they came from the other side of the world without having tried them on! They were exactly as I had imagined them so I was delighted.

Have you worn your shoes yet? What did your friends think?

I am known as Imelda at work so when I wore them in I got a lot of comments. I also had the shoes delivered to work so there was a big unveiling when they arrived. They all agree that they are stunning!

Thanks again for an amazing experience! I definitely look forward to designing another pair of shoes and just need the excuse really – it doesn’t take much. I also love your website and emails – they are often one of the highlights of my day.
