The Golden Stiletto Awards 2012
Once again the SheSays Golden Stiletto Awards were held the 4th of October in London and we have exclusive access to the night’s events!
For the second year in a row, SheSays asked Upper Street to award the winning entry with their own personal Golden Stilettos. The idea behind these awards is to give recognition to a woman who created, planned, produced or managed a piece of work that changes the game for the digital advertising industry. It’s the first ever wearable award in the history of advertising!!
Whether you attended the ceremony or not, here’s a roundup of the night’s events, meet the winners and have a look at exclusive pictures.
This beautiful pair of gold snakeskin platform peep toes with an asymmetric front and burgundy suede and snakeskin accents, was a hit during the event.
The Winning team, Ale and Ana from Denmark, produced a video for Only, a clothing brand for feminine and strong women. In their words:
ONLY – The Liberation:
www.onlybecausewecan.comWe wanted to reach a young, female consumer by giving them a new permission to act a bit more freely and carefree, all summed up in the sentence ‘ONLY Because We Can’. The main execution ended up being a mash-up between a movie, a Flash based game, a music video, and a fashion catalogue with a focus on social sharing. We created what came to be ‘The Liberation’ – an interactive film experience with a well considered amount of user interaction, simple, yet strong design and art direction plus a highly detailed sound image.
With a simple click any time, the film freezes, turning into an interactive catalogue and from here you can: browse, like, pin, tweet and buy. You also interact with the story. Amongst other things, steal jeans, that, if you’re lucky, are sent to you for real and free. Finally your personal experience is summed up in a bespoke catalogue, so you can revisit the clothes you looked at, shop, share, download music and wallpapers.
We absolutely loved the video and those are a pair of Golden Stilettos well deserved! Congratulations from everyone here at Upper Street, we really look forward to designing your winning shoes.

Love the design you think is just right for her, give your views and design advice in ‘Comments:’ should she add a large bow to that lovely burgundy ballet flat or would it be better to go with a black suede pointed court instead? Or design a whole new shoe and share it with Julia.

Style Icons – Kate Middleton
With the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge now well into their North American tour, image after image floods the Internet documenting every step they take. The one thing everyone wants to know is what is she wearing. With her favoured high street retailers mixed in alongside designer labels, what Kate wears is becoming a hot topic amongst the masses.
Here at Upper Street we’ve been literally following Kate’s every step with a close eye on her chosen footwear. It’s evident that she opts for classics and is clearly not afraid to recycle her growing collection of shoes.
So far Kate has favoured two pairs of heels – neutral LK Bennett platform pumps and a navy Prada stiletto. A pair of red Hobbs pumps have also made one appearance and are sure to make another before the tour ends – maybe she read our blog post, Three Shoes You Must Have before she jetted off!
We love Kate’s classic choices but thought it would be fun to come up with a few designs to bring that bespoke Upper Street touch to her looks…
Triple strap leather d’Orsay, Embellished strappy satin sandal
To compliment Kate’s Roland Mouret dress, Smythe one button blazer and Mulberry Polly Push Lock bag we would have added these elegant triple strap navy leather d’Orsay heels. We love the addition of the maple leaf brooch that Kate added to her purple Issa dress – a pair of navy satin stappy sandals with a touch of sparkle would have completed the look beautifully.
Camel snake court, Nude patent peep toe
To pick out the contrasting waist panel on Kate’s By Malene Birger Bullet dress, we’ve chosen a pair of camel snake platforms with tonal asymmetric panels. The stunning navy Erdem lace dress is perfect for pairing with neutral heels – we love these glossy nude patent peep toes.
Leather d’Orsay platform, Suede bow sandal
The famous Reiss engagement portrait dress came along for the tour, topped off by a maple leaf fascinator and an Anya Hindmarch Clutch. We adore red hued heels but we’d have loved to have seen this paired with some d’Orsay platforms with an ankle strap. To wear with the second Erdem dress, Kate opted for her favourite nude pumps but we’d have gone for a little colour blocking here. She could have swapped the clutch for a tonal blue one and stepped into these stunning scarlet suede bow sandals.
Do you think of Kate as a style icon and which of her looks from the tour so far have been your favourite?

Never Mind The Dress Kate, It’s All About The Shoes!
As the big day draws near and speculation is rife as to which designer has been given the task of creating Kate Middleton’s wedding gown, here at Upper Street we think the media is missing a bit of a point.
What about the shoes? Any shoe-a-holic worth her Sex And The City box set knows that the shoes you choose for your big day are just as, if not more important! Whilst we’re looking forward to finding out the answer to one for the biggest fashion questions this century, we’d also love to sneak a peek under the hemline of that dress to find out what Kate favours in the footwear department.

With an air of homegrown beauty and her simple elegant taste, she clearly loves fashion and has an eye for both great designer and High Street pieces. We’re really looking forward to seeing how she performs in the style stakes over the coming years – all outfits will be seriously scrutinised from now on.
If Kate chooses a safer option for the gown, will she indulge in some statement shoes? Or will she keep it classically elegant from head to toe? Our imaginations have been running riot as to what the future queen of England will step out in on Monday 29 April. If Kate had come to Upper Street for those all important unique and fabulous shoes, here are a few bridal style couplings that we’d love to see….
Vera Wang is the undisputed queen of beautiful bridal gowns and most girls would give anything to wear one of her creations. We love the warm tones in this particular design and think that these pearl satin D’Orsay courts with a delicate camel satin flower would make the perfect compliment for a statement wedding dress such as this.
Silver satin sparkle pointed court
It would be a dream come true to see Kate walk down the aisle looking like Audrey Hepburn in a gown such as this. The simple elegance of this look calls for chic footwear. Pointed courts in white satin and metallic silver are given added sparkle with a sprinkle of Swarovski Diamante on all three straps.
Satin snake gem platform sandal
Although the chance’s of it happening are minimal, many of us would love to see the future queen draped in Alexander McQueen on her wedding day. Seeing as this particular feathered frothy creation allows for full on, footwear focus then she should make the most of it in a pair of dove satin and silver snake platform sandals with a Swarovski jewel cluster.
If you’ve been struck down with Royal Wedding fever, leave a comment and tell us which designer you’re hoping Kate Middleton will be wearing on her big day and why.
